2/12/2007 - PSE&G Call Before You Dig

A message from PSE&G:

All utility locations, including our electric and gas service, can be easily identified by utilizing the New Jersey State mandated mark out process.  New Jersey State law requires everyone who digs or excavates to call the New Jersey One Call Center at 1-800-272-1000.

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, we want to educate homeowners and contractors on the dangers of building structures over our electric and gas utilities.  Often we find the homeowner is unaware this situation exists until it is discovered by our meter reader, our mark out process or when a customer has a service complaint.  We encourage homeowners to consider where all of their utilities are located before building decks, additions, patios or fencing.
In most cases, when a conflict with our facilities arises, the homeowner is responsible for the cost to relocate our facilities.  By identifying the need to relocate our facilities in the planning process, the customer can attempt to avoid the cost of relocation which will be necessary once the conflict arises.  When an unsafe situation is discovered, our only choice is to disconnect the service or relocate it at the homeownwers' expense and inconvenience.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO USE THE NEW JERSEY ONE CALL CENTER at 1-800-272-1000 BEFORE YOU DIG.
